Fedora Core 5 and XGL/AIGLX - DONE QUICK !!

The XGL guide - click here.

The AIGLX Guide - click here.

Three years later and we are still getting hits to this fairly untouched section - amazing!

If your card is listed here: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_Video_Card_Support_Under_XGL and you cannot get Xgl to work with my guide, then you might have better luck installing from source, with instructions found here: http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Software_2fXgl

For those that like to be self sufficient: specs here, cvs info here.

UPDATE: 02/10/06: The initial purpose of this guide was to provide a stop-gap solution ( for fellow Nvidia users ) to tide things over until Aiglx had Nvidia support - with the latest Nvidia BETA drivers ( which includes the needed TFP ) the wait is over, as far as i am concerned. I have been toying with the set up under FC5 and will have something up tomorrow, for all - or sooner. Look at this as the final part of this guide in regards to hardware accelerated desktop from me. I am looking forward to FC6 and the more official repository schedule and direction. :)

UPDATE: 22/09/06: it's my b/d tomorrow, if youd like to send me a postcard from your area, send a blank e-mail to redundant :) for more info :D Also, i would like to ask if anyone would be interested in hosting a mirror, the main box is really struggling to handle the load due to popularity - we have seen an increase in people each month on a consistant basis. If you have a dedicated connection ( not a home cable/ xDSL; preferably some hosting plan / site ) then please get in contact with me.

UPDATE: 07/09/06: gconf et al are going to be phased out ( in this guide ) in favour of the new compiz config tool by QuinnStorm, csm. read the howto for updated info regarding usage. Some packages updates, too.

UPDATE: 01/09/06: most of the packages have been updated. 'yum clean all' then 'yum update' if you do not see em right now. Enjoy!

UPDATE: 22/08/06: cgwd / gcompizthemer themes will trickle in as they conform to standards. sam-script updated.

UPDATE: 21/08/06: Support added for x86_64 systems - be sure to update the repo rpm and remove the 32 bit packages you might have installed previously.

Also both Arch's have some package updates, if you do not see them listed, do a 'yum clean all' then 'yum update'

UPDATE: 15/08/06: Added console ( init 3 ) support to sam-script for those that requested it; some website cosmetic changes too.

UPDATE: 12/08/06. Vanilla and QuinnStorm compiz package updates. Some updates to sam-script with a choice now for Ati users: gdm (settings stay on reboot) OR nested (they stay for current session); your choice there if relevant. Also introduced QuinnStorm's Custom Generic Window Decorator (cgwd) as a replacement for Gnome Window Decorator; also included in package is gcompizthemer - which has been pretty solid so far and i have also added a themes package. If you want to make use of these new tools, scroll to bottom of guide ;-)

UPDATE: 29/06/06. RPM errors should be fixed now. you might need to run 'yum clean all' and then 'yum update' Thanks for the heads up guys.

UPDATE: 18/06/06. Ati and intel support in my script is there; sort of - full screen KDE should be fine, however gnome works in a maximised window ( with Ati ) under Xgl. *shrug* it works fine in x11. Thanks to those that helped test the script.. would however like to hear of any success with any supported cards. Post a msg at the bottom of this page !! :-)

UPDATE: 10/06/06. Some pkg updates. Also, I'm aware of the missing symlinks when updating. simply re-run sam-switch, and all should be good from now on; sorry about this with previous updates.

UPDATE: 31/05/06. If you did not have success with a previous attempt from this guide, some things have been modified, so try now - it should work. *crosses fingers* :-)

UPDATE: 27/05/06. Some packages have been updated, including sam-switch -- which now has better support for gnome ( kde should be okay, too )
